It was 37 degrees when I headed out for my walk this morning. Brr…but the sun was coming up and I warmed up, sort of. It is always a surprise, it seems, that fall comes so quickly, probably not anymore quickly than any other year, but it seems surprising. This year I am more aware I think because as it gets colder, this means we are closer to leaving for Dubai. I am ready, at least I think I am…
We are leaving in a week and a half for a three country tour. Romania first, the global management summit for the company my husband works for. We will spend a week there. Then off to Istanbul, Turkey where we will visit friends. Then on to Dubai for the opening of the repair facility that John will be working with and for the HUB conference, a church related regional gathering. We will be gone for 3 weeks. I have a feeling we will be sad to leave Dubai, but it will only be a few more weeks before we head out for good. We wanted to be home for the holidays so our leaving will be around the week of January 6th.
On the athletic front, I am taking some time off from running. Doing a lot of walking, and some biking. Our apartment is only a couple of blocks from downtown, I love walking to and around town. Still lifting weights two days a week, I really do love lifting, I feel very strong, I even surprise myself sometimes. I have been searching out gyms in Dubai, would love to do some crossfit, but it is very expensive. Hoping to live in a place that has gym and pool facilities.
Sewing has been fun, I have no deadlines and have enjoyed sewing for my Grandkids and myself. I even have planned some Christmas presents!!
I finished Caleb’s quilt just before they left for California. I also made a shirt but failed to take pictures…oh well
My next project was for me. I wanted a bag to use when traveling with pockets on the inside and outside. I purchased the Super Tote Pattern from Noodlehead. (normally I would make these links, but my computer will no longer copy and paste…sigh) So if you really would like this pattern you can go to http://www.noodle-head.com. Anna has some awesome patterns for clothing and for accessories.
I have had this collection of fabrics since we made my daughter and her husband a quilt as a going away present. You can see this quilt in the post “Saying Goodbye from July of 2012. The fabrics are from Blend Fabrics, the Preeti Line by Jessica Gonacha Swift. I really love these fabrics! I wanted a bit of a splash so I added some solid orange, it is a Kona cotton from the Quiltcon collection.
I used the quilt as you go method to make the front pocket. I used Cotton Canvas instead of batting because I wanted it to stand up.
The handles and the gusset are a linen cotton blend that I do not remember the manufacturer. The pocket needs some velcro to help keep it from gapping open, should have done that in the construction…
